Ryan D. Calvert, the voice of Maelstrom, has performed in Jazz,worship, hard rock, and acappella groups. His diverse vocal background is complimented by his command of the 7 string guitar as taught by Sean Michael Radford. Music has always played a part in Ryan's life.

Raised by cultured musicians, he was exposed to a wide range of musical genres and performers from his early youth. While developing his unique style, the influence of the Sca and grunge bands of the 1990s and the contemporary European metal bands played significant roles. Coupling those influences with a wide breadth of musical exposure and a depth of knowledge in theory and composition gives Ryan's music depth and complexity that is not only appealing to the untrained ear,but can be greatly appreciated by seasoned musicians as well.

He is presently working on his second solo album, after parting ways with "The Cantervilles. He is also teaching students to play the guitar by applying his classical training to the desires of each student. The range of skills of his current students spans from fundamentals of basic chords to multiple time signature layering (aka Math Rock).
